Shell scripts and C exercises

Small command-line programs and exercises in Unix, C, and Git.

Early COSC 50 programs

This collection contains smaller Spring 2025 coursework and exercises: shell scripts for vaccination-data summaries, C programs for wind chill, word processing, and histograms, a COVID-data activity, Git practice, and introductory memory and string exercises.

Histogram input handling

The Lab 2 histogram program reads integer input and expands its bin range as needed. Its included test output shows fixed one-value bins for values 0 through 15, then repeated bin doubling for inputs that reach 199. It also tests negative values and whitespace-separated input.

Actual histogram program output after values 32, 64, 128, and 199 expanded the bin range.
A local run shows four range expansions and the final 16 bins. View full size (new tab): Actual histogram program output after values 32, 64, 128, and 199 expanded the bin range.

Course environment

The exercises were developed on Dartmouth’s Linux course servers. Some original scripts depend on shared course datasets and utilities. The portable C programs can be run separately, while the repository preserves the scripts and their recorded test output.
